Job Title: Maintenance Worker Effective Date: March 2025
Reports To: Business Manager Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Primary Functions of this Position
This position provides janitorial, cleaning and lite maintenance for the parish, rectory, school building, convent, rental units and grounds. Experience with electrical, plumbing and power tools would be desired attributes.
Essential Functions
- Assures the church and other parish/school buildings are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Accomplishes this by mopping and vacuuming of floors, cleaning bathrooms and washing windows. Monitors lighting systems and replaces burned out bulbs as required
- Assures the grounds are maintained in a clean and safe manner. Responsible for some snow removal from sidewalks, sprinkler system maintenance, weeding, pruning, raking and light mechanical/electrical maintenance on indoor/outdoor equipment. Also maintains playground equipment in a safe and clean manner
- Performs some maintenance of the rectory, church, school and other church buildings. Accomplishes this by doing lite carpentry, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work and minor repair work on facilities as needed
- Provides other general assistance as needed through setting up the chairs, tables in the facilities as requested, hauling and moving items and picking up parts and other equipment as requested by staff
- Perform all cleaning duties for the parish center
- Assures collection and disposal of trash
- Maintains an inventory of supplies for lighting, cleaning and repair parts as requested. Orders these supplies as necessary
- In partnership with the Facility Manager, contacts and coordinates vendors completing repairs on rectory, church and school furniture, fixtures and facilities
- Assures that parish center chairs and tables are set up each morning and has flexibility to reset the space for funerals, luncheons and other events as needed; ensures that the cafeteria is in service for every school day
- Clean social hall chairs, floor and stack all chairs on the tables after the school lunch is served
- Perform other duties as required with direction from management
Physical Demands
Required job duties are essentially active and include considerable walking, standing, climbing and lifting and/or carrying up to 75lbs. Must be able to walk and stand for extensive periods of time. Must be able to climb and work from a 20 ft. ladder. Ability to use hand tools such as power tools, hammer, pliers, drill, screwdriver, shovel, rake, snow shovel and riding lawn mowers..
Physical Environment
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate controlled office environment as well as in outdoor settings with exposure to temperature extremes. Extensive standing, climbing and walking are essential to successful completion of job duties.
Education Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Trade or Vo-Tech training would be beneficial
- Complete Virtus certification and on-going certification
Experience Preferences
- Successful work experience in minor carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing and mechanical
- Successful work experience in facility cleaning, including sweeping, dusting, washing and waxing of floors and carpet cleaning
- Successful work experience maintaining grounds, parking lots, sidewalks and driveways
- Experience with maintaining commercial roofs, HVAC systems and commercial plumbing
- Ability to professionally communicate with and interact with co-workers and parishioners

Working Environment
This position works a normal 40 hour work week. Exact work hours will be established after a job offer is made. Overtime may occasionally be required. Some weekend, holiday and holy day work is likely. Flexible hours are possible, as approved by the supervisor
