St. Agnes Parish is a Johnson County parish that has a rich history. Founded in 1923, by Father James Ording, St. Agnes was the first parish in Johnson County to be founded due to “suburban sprawl.” Just five minutes from the Country Club Plaza, homes and neighborhoods were being developed as families continued to move “south.” Our present church was built in 1943, by Father Albert Dixon, upon farm land donated by the Roe Family. This was eventually followed by the school, the former convent, and rectory. St. Agnes Parish has been called by Catholics and non-Catholics, the anchor, or cornerstone of Roeland Park, as well as the neighboring cities of Westwood, Mission Woods, Fairway, and Mission Hills.
