What a Wonderful Ww week!  (April 13-17)

  1. This week our letter of the week was Ww. We had a wonderful time and got a lot completed even though it was a short week!
  2. We discussed who works in our school and drew pictures about what they do for their job and what items they use to complete their tasks each day.
  3. In the discovery center we had some potting soil, plastic flowers, garden tools and flower pots to explore. We even found some (fake) worms and bugs in the soil!
  4. We learned a little about water and did our own water drop races on a slippery track. Who knew water droplets could be so much fun!
  5. We made our very own magic wands in the art center! You should have seen the glitter left behind after we made them. They took turns granting wishes from their classmates.
  6. We painted some watermelon portraits and did some math activities with watermelon, including sorting, matching and some fraction work!
  7. We filled in a large slice of watermelon with all the Ww words we could think of.
  8. We practiced counting and grouping things to 10. We will practice the number 10 next week as well.
  9. In church this week Father Jerry taught the children about the changes we see in the church for Easter time. He went into detail about the Easter Candle and the flowers and different decorations. He reminded us about what it means to be Catholic. We do three special things: read the bible, pray and take Holy Communion. We followed up on this in class for our religion time. We also continue to use our prayer bear for all our special intentions.
  10. We played a “walk like an animal” game.
  11. We finished up listening to Judy Moody books during rest time last week. We listened to Winnie the Pooh stories this week. They have really enjoyed this.
  12. We read about Baby Animals in our Weekly Reader and talked about the special names they have.

What a valuable Vv week!

  1. This week we learned about the letter Vv. We began the week with the story about Vera Viper’s Valentine.
  2. We filled in our Vv page with tiny vegetables and filled in a volcano with as many Vv words as we could think of. We also made a vase out of a letter V and drew some beautiful spring flowers inside.
  3. We continued to discuss caterpillars this week. The caterpillars in the Preschool classroom are mostly in their cocoons. We made some of our own caterpillars in the classroom using pom-poms.
  4. We practiced counting to 9 and writing the number 9. We noticed that it looks like an upside down 6.
  5. Our Seeds lesson was about Gathering with Jesus. We talked about ways that we make people feel welcome in our class, in our homes and in the church.
  6. We finished up our Seasons booklets. We observed how the trees outside are beginning to bloom. We decorated the last page of the booklets with spring flowers. Our Weekly Reader was about the changes we see in the spring.
  7. We read some books about volcanoes and looked at pictures of them. We observed that they look like inside and what happens when they erupt. We made our own classroom volcano and did a fun experiment with baking soda and vinegar. We had a blast watching the volcano erupt over and over again. They drew pictures of what they observed. We also touched some real volcano ash!! (It was from when Mt. St. Helen erupted in 1980—My brother lived near by and gathered ash in a jar).
  8. We started listening to chapter books on CD during rest time. They have LOVED this. They listen so attentively and are able to answer questions about the story when it is over. So far we have listened to three Junie B. Jones books.
  9. We cut up lots of different kinds of vegetables and made a vegetable print book. We dipped them in paint and saw all the neat designs we could make with peppers, carrots, corn, mushrooms and celery.
  10. We watched the story of the Velveteen Rabbit.

IMPORTANT TIDBITS:

***Please have your child bring in a dozen plastic Easter eggs and one empty egg carton to school ASAP if you haven’t already. We will need them on Wednesday for an important Easter activity.***
